With reference to previous correspondence, respecting the provision of Kong 2 barrack accommodation at Hong Kong, I am directed by the Secretary of

State for War to transmit, for the information of the Marquis of Ripon, a copy accompanying of a letter* which was addressed to the Treasury on the 27th July last, Hong Kong 2

Mr. Secretary Campbell-Bannerman desires me to request that you wil be good enough to move the Marquis of Ripon to use every endeavour to induce the Colony to adopt the programme which accompanied his letter to the Treasury, dated the 27th July last, Hong Kong 2, and to undertake

to provide half the expenditure which is to be incurred during the next eight years, the value of Colonial military lands to be surrendered to be taken in diminution of the total cost.
